 The Golden Rule The Golden Rule is the principle of treating others as you want to be treated. It is a maxim that is found in most religions and cultures. It can be considered an ethic of reciprocity in some religions, although different religions treat it differently.  Buddhism: Hurt not others with that which pains yourself. We should not do the same thing with others which hurts ourselves.  Just like we want others to treat us well and speak sweetly, we should treat others first.
